Bob Feller pitched 9 innings for the victory and left fielder Albert Belle
blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Tiger Stadium as the red-hot Cleveland
Indians beat the Detroit Tigers in 24 innings 5 to 3.
The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Cleveland was
victorious in the 24th inning. Omar Vizquel led off and started the attack
as he doubled. Two outs later Al Rosen came up and he drew a walk. Belle
then smacked a three-run homer. Cleveland totaled 16 hits on the afternoon.
Don Mossi(1-2) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Mossi was helped out
by Stan Coveleski who recorded his 4th save. Hal Newhouser(6-6) was tagged
with the loss in relief.
Belle was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the ball
real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they are paying off.
